Having a defibrillator is a good idea as it can save someone’s life. However, you need to ensure that the device is in good condition at all times. This is so that you can be sure that it will be working well at the moment when it will be needed most.

Here is how to take care of your AED defibrillator.

    • Keep the device in an area where it can easily be accessed

Ideally, this should be an area where it is prominently displayed so that whenever it is needed, it will be easy to find.

It can be quite frustrating to have an AED defibrillator but not be able to find it when you need it most. Therefore, ensure that the place where it is kept is well labeled so that even someone who is not accustomed to the building can easily find it and use it.

    • Check the batteries

After using the device, always check that the batteries are working well. You will need to replace the batteries from time to time.

In addition, even if the device has not been used over a long period of time, it is always worth it to check that the batteries are still there and that they are working.

    • Ensure that the voice prompts are working

The voice prompts that most of these devices have can be quite helpful. They help to guide the person who is assisting the victim so that that the person administering the first aid knows what to do.

Therefore, it is essential that you ensure the voice prompts, or even written prompts in some cases, are working well.

    • Check the pads

The pads also need to be changed from time to time. Always check the pads to ensure that they have not expired. You can even keep an extra set of pads so that in case one set is not working, you will have a replacement ready.

    • Read the manual

Some things you need to do to maintain the device are specific to the model. Therefore, always refer to the manual that the defibrillator came with.

This way, you will know what further steps to take to ensure that your device is always in good condition.

    Conclusion

A defib is one of the most effective ways of treating a patient who is having a cardiac arrest. Fast response is important. That is why you should ensure that your defib is always in good condition.
